2026 update: April- $4213 treating 52 patients

Members of the Syed & Eliza Health Foundation recently visited Kampot, Cambodia, to officially launch the charity’s healthcare access programme in collaboration with Sonja Kill Memorial Hospital, around one year after Ibby and Eliza first envisioned the idea following time spent in the village.

Joined by local villiage leaders and volunteers who could translate between khymer and english the team visited each household covered individually to introduce ourselves to the family, explain the charity and provide them with health access cards to obtain free healthcare.

The team also performed basic screening tests at each household, advising those with abnormal results to go to Sonja Kill Hospital where they will recieve the appropriate investigations and management free of charge

The team also provided families with dental hygiene supplies as well as health education on brushing teeth. The toothbrushes were a hit for children in the villiage!

Living conditions in the village were generally poor. Some houses had no flooring, with families walking on rubble. We were told living in these conditions becomes extremely hard in the rainy season.

The team met with senior staff from our partner NGO, Sonja Kill Memorial hospital. As a result of this meeting, the charity added diabetes, hypertension and gastritis/oesophagitis management as pre approved for all patients. The hospital and the foundation also took steps to avoid mis-use of health access cards, introducing a triple verification system of eligible beneficiaries.

The team also met with Dr Cornelia, CEO of Sonja Kill Memorial Hospital, along with the Head of Finance, Mr Chany, and other staff members to formally sign our partnership agreement in person. This agreement strengthens accountability and improves access to care for our villiagers.
